Why this site

Most "natural" products on the shelf are a long ingredient list with a leaf on the front. The alternative — making your own — has always been possible, but the instructions online are vague, untested, or written for a different country's supermarkets.

So we wrote the version we wanted: recipes with weights not "a splash", a reason for every ingredient, the exact aisle or website in Australia where you'll find it, roughly what a batch costs, and the safety notes nobody bothers with. Fifty-five recipes across eleven corners of the house, and more as the community adds them.

What we believe

• Fewer, better ingredients. If we can't explain what something does, it doesn't go in.
• Safety over purity. Where a preservative is needed in a water-based recipe, we say so and tell you why. "Natural" and "safe" are not the same word.
• Supermarket first. Specialty suppliers only when it changes the result.
• Less plastic by design. Bars, powders and dissolvable sheets over bottles and jugs.
• Pets are not small humans. Cats in particular. Our pet recipes are lick-safe and we're blunt about when to see a vet.

How the site stays free

Some links on our where-to-buy page are affiliate links — if you buy through them we may earn a small commission at no cost to you. We never take payment to recommend a product, and we only list things we'd buy ourselves. Our own products, like the e-book, are in the shop.

Get involved

Tweaked a recipe and it worked better? Found a cheaper supplier? Post it on the community board — the best suggestions get added to the recipe with credit. And if you'd rather do something bigger than your laundry, the Get involved page lists clean-ups and volunteer days around Australia.
