Dissolvable laundry sheets
Water-soluble film, your own detergent inside.
Shop laundry sheets are detergent dried onto water-soluble PVA film — sold in Australia as wash-away embroidery stabiliser. Spread a thick paste on it, dry, cut into squares, and the sheet dissolves completely in the wash.
Method
- 1
Mix the castile, washing soda, percarbonate, glycerine and oil into a thick, spreadable paste. Add a few drops of water if it's too stiff.
- 2
Lay the film on baking paper on the tray. Spread the paste in a thin, even layer (about 2 mm). Thinner dries faster and dissolves better.
- 3
Dry in a dehydrator at 45 °C, or in the oven on its lowest setting with the door ajar, until completely dry and matte (4–8 hours). Don't let it get hot — PVA softens above about 60 °C.
- 4
Cut into 6 × 8 cm squares with a pizza cutter. Store in an airtight tin with a silica sachet.
How to use
- One sheet per normal load, two for heavy soil. Drop it in the drum before the clothes.
- Works in cold water; dissolves within the first few minutes.
Tips
- No film? Roll the paste 4 mm thick between baking paper, score into 5 cm squares and dry into snap-apart wafers.
- Brittle? More glycerine next time. Tacky? Humidity — add a silica sachet.
Safety
- Store away from children — this is concentrated detergent.
