Whipped shea & jojoba body butter
Cloud-light, melts on contact, four core ingredients.
The classic whipped butter: shea for richness, coconut for glide, and jojoba because it is a close match to the oils your skin makes itself. Whipping traps air so it feels like mousse rather than grease.
Method
- 1
Melt the shea and coconut oil gently over the double boiler. Don't let it boil — high heat makes shea grainy.
- 2
Take it off the heat and stir in the jojoba oil and arrowroot until smooth.
- 3
Chill in the fridge for 45–60 minutes, until the edges have set and the centre is soft, like cold butter.
- 4
Whip on high for 5–8 minutes until it roughly triples in volume and holds stiff peaks. Add the essential oil in the last minute.
- 5
Spoon into the jar. Store below 25 °C — in an Australian summer, a cool cupboard or the fridge door.
How to use
- A pea-sized amount per arm or leg — it spreads much further than shop lotion.
- Best on damp skin straight after a shower.
- Lovely on elbows, heels and dry shins.
Tips
- If it melts in a heatwave, re-chill and re-whip. Nothing is lost.
- Swap the coconut oil for mango butter if coconut doesn't suit your skin.
Safety
- Patch-test on your inner forearm for 24 hours before using all over.
- Leave out the essential oil during pregnancy and for babies under 2.
