Soapnuts contain saponins — natural foaming agents. Simmered, they give a mild, low-lather liquid that is kind to colour-treated and fine hair. Add a herbal tea for scent and shine.
Method
- 1
Simmer soapnuts and rosemary in water, lid on, 20 minutes. Crush the shells with a spoon as they soften.
- 2
Cool, strain, stir in glycerine. Bottle.
How to use
- Pour 60–80 ml over wet hair, massage 1–2 minutes (it foams lightly), rinse.
- Repeat for very oily hair.
Tips
- Soapnuts also make a laundry liquid — see Laundry.
Safety
- Soapnut liquid stings eyes badly. Keep out.
